Wooden wall finishes can look similar in photographs while using very different materials. Compare the visible surface, backing and installation method before comparing prices. A real wood finish, an acoustic assembly and a decorative print are separate features, and one does not guarantee the others.

Solid timber and reclaimed boards
Solid boards bring the grain and character of the timber itself. Reclaimed wood adds variation in colour and texture, but pieces may need sorting, preparation and careful fixing. Compare dimensions, condition, treatment and maintenance instructions. Do not assume that any timber wall automatically absorbs sound effectively; exposed hard boards can still reflect it.
Stick-on strips and decorative printed panels
Thin adhesive strips can be useful for a decorative feature on a suitable substrate. Their appearance, adhesive requirements and edge finish differ by product. Printed or foil-faced panels provide a reproduced pattern rather than real wood grain. Both can have a place in an interior, but should be described accurately and compared using their own specifications.
Real wood veneer on a panel core
Veneer is a thin layer of real wood over a supporting core. Adeqo acoustic slats use MDF with real veneer on the front and both sides, backed by recycled PET felt. This combines a repeated slat layout with natural surface variation. Check the exposed edges as well as the front: a product described as wood-effect is not necessarily veneered.
Compare complete project costs
Include preparation, cutting, backing, fixings, trims, finishing work and labour. Different widths and usable lengths can change the waste allowance. A price per board cannot be compared directly with a price per panel without calculating the covered area and the materials needed to complete the wall. Use current product prices or a project quotation rather than a general price range.
Choose for the room and its purpose
For a visual accent, appearance and fitting may lead the choice. Where reducing reverberation matters, compare acoustic test data for the complete installation. Wet, high-heat, impact-prone or regulated areas require additional product checks. Order samples to compare the surface with your flooring and lighting, then plan a layout that fits the room.

| Material | Visible character | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Solid timber | Real timber grain | Preparation / finish / movement / fixing |
| Reclaimed boards | Variable natural character | Condition / dimensions / treatment |
| Adhesive strips | Decorative individual pieces | Substrate / adhesive / edges |
| Printed or foil panels | Reproduced surface pattern | Actual product construction |
| Real veneer panels | Natural wood surface on a core | Backing / exposed edges / acoustic evidence |

Frequently asked questions
How do stick-on wood strips differ from veneer panels?
Stick-on strips are individual decorative pieces with their own backing and adhesive requirements. A veneer panel uses a supporting core and a real wood surface; an acoustic version may also include an absorbent backing. Compare the complete construction.
Does every wooden wall finish improve acoustics?
No. Hard timber surfaces can reflect sound. Acoustic performance depends on the complete construction, backing, spacing and mounting. Ask for test details when reducing reverberation is part of the project.
Which wooden wall finish is easiest to install?
Ready-made panels reduce individual slat spacing work, but still need preparation, cuts and appropriate fixings. Loose boards or strips offer flexibility with more individual fitting. Choose according to the substrate, pattern and your tools or installer.
How long does wooden wall panelling last?
Service life depends on the product, exposure, installation and maintenance. Do not assume a fixed lifetime for every timber or veneer finish. Follow the relevant product guidance and review warranty terms separately.
Which wall finish suits a smaller budget?
Compare the complete installed cost, including backing, fixings, trims, finishing, waste and labour. A low board price may not produce the lowest finished cost. Use current prices and a layout to compare realistic options.
