Wood wall panels in a kitchen: where they work best

± 3 minutes

A wood slat feature can bring warmth to a kitchen, particularly beside a dining table or on a wall away from cooking and washing. The position matters more than the style alone. Interior acoustic panels should not be treated as a waterproof splashback or a heat-resistant covering.

Table of contents

Separate the accent wall from the working splashback

Identify where steam, water, grease and cooking heat reach the wall in everyday use. The area behind a hob or beside a frequently used sink calls for a finish intended for that exposure. Adeqo wood veneer and felt panels are an interior decorative acoustic product; do not assume they are suitable for direct splashes or a hot cooking zone.

Choose a dry wall with a clear purpose

A dining wall, breakfast area or dry section at the end of the kitchen can be a more suitable candidate. Check the actual conditions, including ventilation and condensation, before fitting. There is no universal distance from a hob that makes every wood product safe: follow the appliance instructions and the material specification for the proposed arrangement.

Match the wood to cabinets and flooring

Compare samples beside cabinet fronts, worktops and floor finishes. A light oak can sit comfortably with pale cabinets, while walnut or a darker finish creates contrast. Look at the sample under task lighting as well as daylight. A named colour from one supplier is not a guaranteed match with another wood finish.

    Plan practical details before fitting

Draw sockets, switches, skirting and the final exposed edge. Electrical alterations need a qualified electrician. Fix the panel to a sound, dry surface with an appropriate method, and finish cuts and ends neatly. Keep access to appliances and service points rather than building the feature across them.

Clean gently and check the acoustic aim

Dust the veneer and felt using the product’s cleaning guidance; avoid soaking, steam cleaning or abrasive treatment. If a mark is likely to need aggressive cleaning, reconsider the location. The felt backing can reduce reflections in an open kitchen-dining room, but the amount and placement of treatment must suit the complete space.

    Frequently asked questions

Can wood acoustic panels be fitted behind a cooker?

Do not use interior veneer and felt panels as a heat-resistant cooking splashback. Choose a product specified for the exposure and follow the appliance and material instructions. A dry accent wall away from cooking is a different application.

How far should wood panels be from a hob?

There is no universal clearance that makes every wood product suitable. Follow the appliance requirements and check the material’s suitability for the actual heat, grease and steam exposure before specifying the detail.

How should kitchen wood panels be cleaned?

Follow the veneer and felt cleaning instructions and avoid soaking, steam cleaning or abrasive treatment. If the location regularly needs aggressive cleaning, choose a finish suited to that exposure.

Which wood colour works with a white kitchen?

Compare light oak, warmer oak and walnut samples beside the cabinet fronts, floor and worktop. Assess them under daylight and task lighting; a photograph or colour name cannot guarantee a match.
