What does B-s1,d0 mean for acoustic panels?

At a glance: Understand B-s1,d0, the difference between felt and complete-panel classification, and which documents to request for your acoustic panel project.

Table of contents

Read the classification before choosing a panel

B-s1,d0 is a reaction-to-fire classification under EN 13501-1. It describes a product or assembly tested within a specified scope. B indicates limited contribution to fire, s1 very limited smoke production, and d0 no flaming droplets or particles in the classification test. It is not a statement that a material cannot burn, and it does not give a wall a fire-resistance period.

Felt classification is not complete-panel classification

An acoustic panel combines several materials. A report for a felt backing cannot automatically be used as proof for the MDF slats, veneer and complete assembly. In the standard Adeqo range, B-s1,d0 applies to the felt. The felt and fire-retardant MDF core have separate B-s1,d0 component reports. This does not establish the classification of the veneered slats or complete panel. Check the exact product and construction described in the report.

B1 and B-s1,d0 are different systems

B1 is terminology from the German DIN 4102 system. It should not be treated as an interchangeable label for the European B-s1,d0 classification. Ask for the actual report, its standard and its scope instead of relying on a product name or a short marketing statement.

Specify the installation as well as the material

Mounting method, substrate, air gaps, adhesives and finishing components can matter to the classification scope. A different installation may require separate assessment. For offices, hospitality venues, healthcare, schools and escape routes, have the responsible designer or fire specialist identify the applicable project requirements. The building use and location determine what is required.

What to request from your supplier

Ask for the classification report identifying the product, tested construction and application limits. Confirm whether it covers the felt only or the complete panel assembly, and whether the planned fixings and edge details are suitable. Adeqo can supply the relevant documentation with a project quotation so your team can check it before ordering.
